Web Intranet vs Server-based Intranet

Perhaps the first decision that a company needs to make regarding their Intranet software is whether they will host on a local or Internet server, or use a web-based alternative.
Server-based Intranet - The server-based solution is typically relegated to out-of-the-box type software and is also the realm of the Intranet developer. In this group there are 2 general categories, shared-applications and software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. In general web-based applications remove the need for developing internal resources and provide installation, configuration, technical support, software updates, security updates, and technical support… all of which are viewed as very positive attributes by most companies.
