Intranet Platforms

What strikes me about the selection of Intranet Software available is that there is a wide range of Intranet features being promoted across the board. In fact, ‘Intranet’ literally means something quite different to every Intranet software developer.

One observation I can offer is that there seems to be 3 different camps – the CMS (content management) group, the Wiki group, and the .net group for Microsoft supporters. In general these all offer something unique for the organization.

The Wiki group of Intranet software developers have put their faith in a form of content management has its place but, to many, the Wiki stance implies limitations and our opinion is that Wiki-based Intranets are not future proof; meaning that extensibility is restricted by the nature of the platform and the lack of features.  Read More

The .NET group of Intranet developers stay true to all things Microsoft and even claim many Microsoft applications as being features.  In my opinion this is only by right of association and being able to integrate Microsoft mail and contact features does not warrant much excitement.  Read More
